Notes

Rainforest tree very similar to D. sanza-minica but with a smooth rather than grooved, black, hard, and very brittle bark; slash black outside, pale brown inside, yellow towards the inner edge. Between the crusty outer bark and the brown inner bark there is a thin black layer. Leaf simple, alternate. Fragrant cauliflorous flowers with blackish calyx and white corolla. Branchlets, petioles, calyx and fruits with densely brown velvety hairs. Leaf with a pair of glands at the base.
