Notes

A complex species with three sub-species: Syzygium guineense ssp. guineense: a shrub or small tree of coastal forests; S. guineense ssp. macrocarpum, a small tree of montane forests, in Liberia found in the Nimba area; S. guineense ssp. occidentale: a big high forest tree with a fluted bole, of marshy places in the rainforest; bark dark grey, slash thick. Leaves small and thin papery.The three sub-species have in common: opposite leaves with translucent points and no stipules.
