Very similar to Caloncoba echinata: usually a shrub but sometimes a small tree of the high forest understory. Leaves simple, alternate, glabrous, with medium petioles; stipules/stipule scars may be present; blade elliptic/obovate, rounded/acute at the top, cuneate at the base, with about 5 – 6 pairs of laterals. Flowers big, white, with numerous stamens. Fruit ± elliptic, smooth, orange/yellowish when ripe, 5 – 8 cm long, ellipsoid, tapering at both ends, with a long peduncle. Fruit with many seeds; seeds with a red aril. See also PROTA database. Syn.: Oncoba brevipes.
