Notes

Usually a shrub but sometimes a small tree of the high forest understory. Leaves simple, alternate; stipules/stipule scars may be present; young twigs slightly winged below the nodes, lenticellate. Petiole swollen at both ends. Blade oblong – elliptic; margin entire, apex acuminate/caudate, base cunate/rounded; about 4 – 6 pairs of arching but not really looping laterals. Yellowish-orange sea-urchin-like fruits. Syn.: Oncoba echinata
