Notes

A tree of secondary forests, to 25 m tall and 100 cm Ø, mostly in the semi-deciduous forest zone. Stem straight, without buttresses; bark finely scaly and especially near the base with small circular pits as the result of detaching bark scales. Slash thick, reddish or pink with white wavy lines, fibrous, exuding a clear and sticky gum. Pioneer species, often in or near swampy areas. Leaves impari-pinnate, the leaflets asymmetric at base. Fruit a little drupe of 7 – 8 x 4 – 5 mm, black when ripe, with an acid pulp, edible. See also PROTA database.
