Medium-sized tree to 35 m and 90 cm Ø with a straight or slightly swollen base and a long, straight, cylindrical bole. Crown fairly small, open, with nearly horizontal branches; twigs and distichous leaves drooping, giving the crown a characteristic drooping habit. Bark shallowly and longitudinally fissured, thick and soft; slash strongly fragrant, ochre-brown, turning darker on exposure. The high wood rays are easily recognized in the slash. Fruit an angled globular mass of loosely united, ribbed carpels, 3 – 4 cm Ø. See also PROTA database. Syn.: Pachypodanthium staudtii.
