Notes

A river side or swamp tree but also in gallery forest, with a fluted bole when big, not to be confused with Xylopia parviflora. Tree to 20 m high and 40 cm Ø. Bark with typical Annonaceae bark, with vertical folds and a scented, fibrous slash, easily peelable in strips. Pale yellow, fragrant flowers. Fruit carpels sub-sessile, woody, rusty tomentose, oblong, about 8 x 4 cm, red.
