Shrub or small tree to 10 m, rainforest, often near water, with large, yellow, red-speckled showy flowers on bare branches. The bark is grooved with shallow grooves and blunt ridges. Twigs often zigzag. Leaves simple, alternate, often more than 20 cm long, (ob)lanceolate-elliptic, acuminate, with 6 – 15 pairs of laterals; blade lighter but not bluish beneath. Fruit spherical, ribbed, 5 – 8 cm Ø, with 3 mm thick wall, yellow-orange when ripe, turning black, with many seeds.
