Jongkind 6454 (WAG)
A small understory tree to 10 (20?) m tall, and 25 cm Ø; branches short, clustered at the end of a straight bole, rusty pubescent when young. Bark in concentric lighter/darker layers, pinkish light brown, fibrous, with characteristic Annonaceae smell of the slash. Apical buds with dense, appressed orange brown hairs. Very big simple, alternate leaves, 15 – 28 x 5 – 11 cm; often glaucous beneath, asymmetric and ± cordate at base; about 15 – 20 steeply ascending laterals, connected by a vaguely visible network of scalariform veins. Flowers on the twigs, greenish/yellowish. In semi deciduous forests. Fruits 2 – 4 single carpels, each up to 10 x 6 cm. Syn.: Brieya fasciculatum.
