A small tree of the semi-deciduous forest and drier forest types, especially on dry rocky hills, to 10 m high and 25 cm Ø. Young branches yellowish tomentose. Leaves impari-innate, opposite; leaves with rounded stipules but without pseudo stipules as in M. lutea; leaflets tomentose or pubescent beneath, each leaflet with 7 – 10 pairs of prominent laterals and scalariform (ladder-pattern) secondary nerves; rounded glands near the base of the leaflets. Flowers in terminal racemes with big yellow flowers; fruits long and narrow, 30 – 70 cm long, softly orange or reddish tomentose, containing numerous small, laterally winged seeds.
