Notes

Usually a much-branched shrub but occasionally a tree with ascending branches, to 12 m high with a wide base, to 70 cm Ø; tree of dry semi-deciduous forest but often planted near villages as cattle fence; also recorded from the coastal zone in Ivory Coast. Slash creamy and orange-white, soft, with orange grit lines. Flowers in big spikes of big (6 cm) mauve – pinkish flowers. Fruits linear follicles up to 30 cm long, containing numerous thinly winged seeds with transparent wings. Leaves opposite or in whorls of three, the leaflets with some glands at the base.
