A common low, compact tree of the coastal savannas, to 8 m and 40 cm Ø. It is highly fire resistant. The tree coppices well from thick branches or stumps. The wood is a preferred fire wood and by cutting heavy branches the tree as such is spared to grow a new crop of fire wood. Slash reddish/pinkish under a light brown outer bark. Leaves simple, alternate, cordate at base with pair of glands near base; leaf leathery. Syn.: Parinari macrophylla.
