A tree of swamps and riparian zone, with a red sticky slash. Leaves simple, alternate, with a short petiole; young flush with small, kidney-shaped stipules that leave a half-circular scar at the node. Blade ± ovate/elliptic, 10 – 22 x 3 – 9 cm, acute (and often mucronate) apex, entire margin, and cuneate/rounded, assymetric base. 10 – 15 looping laterals with many fine, ± parallel nerves in between. Fruits small, 4-lobed (2 main lobes, each bi-lobed).
