A tree not recorded from Liberia, rare in Ivory Coast where it can grow to 30 m high and 80 cm Ø; base with buttresses, stem straight, at places with horizontal striation. Bark grayish, finely cracked; slash with two distinct layers, a thin, dark brown outer layer and bright rose-yellowish inner layer, slowly exuding a transparent, gelatinous gum. Leaf pinnate with alternate leaflets; the leaflets emarginate, somewhat resembling tose of Copaifera salikounda. Fruits papery, reticulate, yellowish, about 14 x 4.5 cm, with 1 or 2 flat seeds. Wood extremely hard, dark brown. See also PROTA database.
