It is widespread in Liberia, often gregarious, preferring the drier forest types. Bark greenish-grey, smooth. Slash thin, fibrous, hard, pinkish or reddish brown, with an acidic taste. Leaves pari-pinnate, with 4 – 6 juga; tip of leaflets often finely emarginate and glandular; leaflets bluish green beneath. Small dark red flowers in thin, up to 40 cm long racemes hanging down from the crown. Fruit a very long, strap-like pod, up to 60 cm. See also PROTA database.
