A large, often gregarious or even single-dominant forest tree found in the central and eastern part of Liberia, with well-developed, thin buttresses; slash compact fibrous, pottery red, ripple marks mostly visible. Leaf bi-foliolate with sessile, falcate leaflets; new leaf flushes brilliantly red. In Western Province replaced by Cynometra leonensis. See also PROTA database.
