Notes

A large tree from the deciduous forest, sporadically found in the semi-deciduous forest, with a massive crown. Leaves pinnate with (sub)opposite leaflets or alternate; leaflets with numerous translucent points; many parallel fine laterals. The fruit does not resemble a pod at all, being globular and slightly flattened with a coriaceous skin around a fibrous sugar sweet pulp, containing a single seed. Some seeds seem to be edible whereas others are reportedly poisonous. Elephants love the fruits and may be the main seed disperser. See also PROTA database.
