Widespread small tree of marshy places in the rainforest, to 15 m high and 40 cm Ø; slash reddish brown. Leaves with (1) 2 – 4 pairs of leaflets (one pair on seedlings and shoots), the lowest pair close to the twig; persistent, kidney shaped stipules; rachis with dense, chocolate brown hairs. Fruit a 15 – 20 x 4 – 5 cm big pod, first brown velutinous, later smooth, with one prominent lateral ridge. See also PROTA database.
