Jongkind 10242 (WAG); Voorhoeve 1299 (WAG)
A medium-sized tree with thin root-ridges and a thin, scaly bark and rather poorly-shaped trunk; slash red brown. Leaves piri-pinnate with 3 – 5 pairs of leaflets; blade with 2 – 3 pairs of curved upwards laterals; apex acuminate – caudate. Fruit a big, velvety blackish brown pubescent pod, markedly pointed at the top, transversally ridged, with less distinct ridges than A. fragrans; the fruits open on the tree, shedding the heavy seeds but the valves remain on the tree, warped around the twigs. The tree resembles Berlinia confusa but lacks the fresh string bean smell of the slash. See also PROTA database. Syn.: Anthonotha kwewonii; A. explicans.
