A medium-sized, rarely large tree, found scattered in the high forest, more common in the drier forests; rare in secondary forest. Bright yellow flowers. Base of the trees with root spurs, rarely small buttresses; bark smooth but covered with numerous lenticels, dark grey, about 1 cm thick; slash hard and granular, light – pale brown, a bit clear watery sap wetting the slash wound. Leaves bi-pinnate with large, alternate leaflets. Fruit a narrow, woody pod, opening lengthwise with force, ejaculating the seeds. See also PROTA database.
