Common rainforest tree with narrow, thin buttresses up to 1.5 m but sometimes higher butt flares, markedly striate at straight angle with the edge; bole sometimes straight but often curved and crooked, forked at low level. Bark dark grey at the base, lighter grey and nearly white in the upper parts of the tree, with horizontal lines of lenticels. The slash is pale-dark brown, granular outside, fibrous inside, with vertical zones of lighter dilatton tissue; sticky on touch. Leaf bipinnate with only one pair of pinnae; big gland at the top of the short, stout petiole. The short, stout petiole distinguishes this species from C. brevibracteatus with a slender, longer petiole. See also PROTA database.
