A tree of the drier forest types and gallery forests resembling C. sphaerocarpum but the fruits are narrower and more rounded at the top. The beaked fruits, yellow when ripe, open with two thick valves, exposing a single seed with a red, laciniate aril; seeds ruminate (crossec section). Slash whitish/reddish, exuding a clear watery sap that turns reddish. The description given in Aubréville may refer to C. sphaerocarpum. See also PROTA database.
