Notes

Shrub or small tree, to 10 cm in diam, can’t grow big pass this. Irregular stem. Bark greenish. Wood hard, brown, used to make ax-handles. Often in mountainous areas. Leaf with widely spaced, thin, sharp teeth (or entire margin). Flowers/fruits usually in pairs at the nodes; flowers yellow; fruits with a large red calyx, shiny black. Leaves simple, alternate, 6 – 13 x 2 – 5 cm, with 8 – 12 pairs of fairly straight laterals, joining a marginal nerve. Margin thickened. Syn.: Ouratea morsonii.
