Small tree of both coastal thickets and submontane and dry forest, on rocks or steep hills. Bark smooth, peeling off in large papery scales; twigs slightly corky. Leaves simple, alternate, with threadlike , not persistent stipules, papery. Petiole very short, with ± distinct abscission line. Blade elliptic/obovate, with distinct forward-pointing teeth, mostly along the upper margin; apex acute, base cuneate. ± 10 pairs of distinct laterals, finer venation not parallel to the laterals. Flowers yellow, in small clusters.
