An as yet not classified large tree, Octoknema sp. A in H&J, 312, was found in SW Ivory Coast and in the Grebo forest in SE Lberia. It has densely pubescent twigs with white stellate/dendritic hairs. Leaves simple, alternate, with entire margin. The petiole is also pubescent with stellate hairs, 1 – 3 cm long, the upper 1 cm swollen. Base of the blade – and this is quite a unique distinguishing characteristic – minutely peltate: the margin grabs around the top of the petiole. Blade ovate, 25 x 9 cm, with 8 – 10 pairs of laterals; midrib densely pubescent. Venation not scalariform(?).
