Notes

Shrub or low-branched tree to 15 m and 25 cm Ø; tree rare in Ivory Coast, not yet recorded from Liberia. See also PROTA database. Leaves simple, alternate, with short, not articulated petiole; young twigs smooth, green for many months, with a minute wing on the last internode. Blade ovate/lanceolate, with 3 – 5 pairs of laterals; finer venation obscure. Margin entire, decurrent into petiole channel. Lower surfave slightly glaucous. Fruit ellipsoid, ± 23.5 cm, black, surrounded by the enlarged, pink, flower-like calyx of 5 – 8 cm across.
