Palm tree, palm nuts tree (Liberian english/ local name/ trade name)
A conspicuous palm with very long pinnate leaves; the lower leaflets often developed as spines. Stem with remnants of the petiole base but more smooth when older, often with numerous epiphytes. Fruits in big bundles, about 2 x 1 cm. Tree cultivated worldwide for the oil-rich seeds; different kinds of oil are extracted from the pulp and from the kernels.
