Notes

Medium-sized rainforest tree to 20 m high and 80 cm Ø, less common in the semi deciduous forest. Tree characterized by its slash: a thin green outer layer over a pink-purple slash with streaks of dark brown. Twigs without terminal bud. Leaves with 4 – 8 grouped at regular intervals along short twigs, creating the impression of a pinnate leaf. Leaf petiole 0.5 – 1.5 cm; blade 6 – 20 x 4 – 9 cm, with a dentate margin; 4 – 5 pairs of laterals; venation finely transverse scalariform. Fruit subglobose/ovoid, 6 – 7 x 5 – 6 cm, yellowish green, in bundles; pericarp thick, brick red, surrounding a big hard nut that can often be found under the tree. See also PROTA database.
