Can grow into a very tall canopy tree of up to 45 m and 120 cm Ø above the heavy rounded root spurs. Leaves in whorls of 3 (rarely opposite or 4) with needle shaped stipules between the petioles (soon caducous); leaves massed towards the end of the twigs. Slash fine granular, hard, pinkish/whitish pale brown, turning darker on exposure, with paler vertical dilatation stripes under the bark cracks, collecting some clear sap. See also PROTA database.
