Notes

Treelet with leathery leaves, red-brown hairs on the 5 – 10 pairs of ascending laterals, no domatia; 9 – 23 x 3 – 10 cm; petiole short/medium; stipules usually absent from second node down. Twigs with a scurphy layer of pale brown scales. Small cylindrical-globose fruits, ± 1 cm, with ruminate endosperm. A related species, G. aureum, from Ivory Coast and Ghana has not yet ben recorded from Liberia but might be present; its leaves are papery, the stipules don’t leave a collar after shedding.
