Notes

Shrub to 6 m tall with longitudinally striate twigs; leaves 12 – 40 cm long,with long brown hairs on the laterals; stipules 12 – 20 mm long; inflroscences hanging, to 7 cm long; ripe fruits 10 – 15 mm across, brownish/greenish. Treelet of open places especially swamps in evergreen forest. A related species is Bertiera spicata, a shrub or treelet, by rivers; twigs with long spreading hairs. Leaves simple, opposite, with interpetiolar stipules of ± 2 cm; blade ovate-oblong, or oblanceolate, 15 – 25 x 4 – 7 cm, with long spreading hairs below; 10 – 12 pairs of hairy laterals. Fruits brown.
