Notes

A tall tree of the coastal zone and rain forest, to 30 high and 80 cm Ø, with a straight bole; bark smooth. Young branches velutinous. Leaves with 3 – 4 pairs of leaflets; petiole constricted at base, slightly winged. Flushes of new leaves pale brown. Fruits up to 8 cm long and 4.5 cm Ø, with 3 sharp-edged lobes, glabrous outside. The variety B. w. var. bancoensis has much smaller fruits. It may also occur in Liberia. See also PROTA database.
