Small tree; twigs at the end with reduced leaves that look like stipules. Leaves with a metallic shine, simple, alternate, obovate, 10 – 25 cm long. Margin entire, apex obtuse – acute, base long-cuneate, tapering into finely cordate. Laterals 8 – 13 pairs, curved. Fruits reddish, with red thickened calyx, on the twigs, <10 cm, with very sweet pulp. Syn.: Sideroxylon aubrevillei.
