Notes

Small tree or shrub in the understory of drier forests, to 20 m tall; twisted, often fluted bole and sarmentose branches. Bark longitudinally fissured; slash grayish brown to whitish, exuding latex. Big leaves with conspicuous long, orange brown hairs on lower surface, large, up 12 – 25 x 8 – 16 cm big, with 15 – 20 pairs of laterals, reaching the margin;venation scalariform. Small ellipsoid fruits of about 2 cm long, containing 1 seed. See also PROTA database. Syn.: Malacantha alnifolia/Malacantha heudelotiana.
