Notes

Shrub or small tree in the forest understory, with a twisted stem and overhanging branches that, when touching the ground, root to make new shoots, thus creating local thickets under which nothing else can grow. Leaves big, 12 – 25 x 6 – 10 cm with 12 – 15 pairs of laterals, the lowest pair rising from the base (vaguely 3-nerved); venation scalariform; blade with silvery scales beneath. Fruit a small finely hairy capsule of 1.5 cm, with a persistent calyx.
