Notes
A small, spreading tree to 12 m high, widespread in the semi deciduous forest and gallery forests, often close to water. Outer bark often with 2 cm wide diamond shaped markings. Slash yellowish – pink orange, contoured, darkening, very fibrous. Leaf with stellate hairs, especially when young, large, 15 – 30 x 10 – 18 cm, 5 – 7 nerved at base. Margin entire but some of the laterals ending in short extensions beyond the margin; venation lax scalariform. Fruit a collection of 4 – 5 sub-orbicular carpels of about 1 cm thick on a common stalk; small round seeds of about 6 mm. See also PROTA database.
