Notes

A tree of the rainforest, on alluvial soils, often close to water, to 40 cm Ø, with twisted bole; branches low, the branches in tiers; slash thick and spongy-fibrous, yellow, with dilatation strands. Leaves, twigs, persistent stipules with a dense cover of long, coarse, orange hairs; stellate hairs on the blade beneath. Leaves simple, alternate; base 3-nerved + ± 5 pairs of not basal laterals; venation scalariform. Flowers white or pink. Fruit yellow, sub-orbicular, 10 x 8 – 9 cm, depressed at both ends, containing numerous seeds in a very fibrous mass
