Notes

A tall tree to 40 m high and 90 cm Ø, found in the drier forest regions, gallery forests, and in savannas (not yet recorded from Liberia). Base of the tree with strong buttresses, extending into butt flares. The bark is scaly, or vertically fissured. Slash hard and dry, orange/yellow-brown, brittle, with a green outer layer and a medicinal smell (iodine). Fruit winged, including the wing about 3 – 4 cm across, somewhat resembling the fruits of Hymenocardia and Pteleopsis. See also PROTA database.
