Notes

Small, widespread understory tree to 15 m; bark reddish brown, flaky, lenticellate beneath the flakes; slash thin, contoured, the paler yellowish parts darkening rapidly. Fruits ellipsoid and hoary, 3 – 4 cm long; the pulp is edible but the kernel yields a poison used to destroy vermin. In dry or secondary forests. H&J report it to be a liana. Syn.: Dichapetalum guineense.
